You’re investing a lot in your 5 day trip to London, so let’s do this right. If you’ve never been before, you’re going to want to return home with all the tales about all the places, so let’s try not to miss anything out of your itinerary.

Day 1: Icons, Art & River Views

  • Start your day at Trafalgar Square – This iconic square is a perfect place to kick off your London adventure. Snap a photo with Nelson’s Column and the lion statues, watch street performers, and soak up the lively atmosphere. Be sure to check out the Fourth Plinth, which hosts rotating modern art installations. Whether quirky or thought-provoking, it’s always a conversation starter.
  • Head into The National Gallery – Opening at 10:00 AM, this world-class gallery houses some of the greatest works of art. Wander through masterpieces by Van Gogh, Monet, and Turner. First-time visitor tip: If you’re short on time, grab a highlights map at the entrance and focus on the must-sees—or simply explore freely and see what catches your eye.
  • Walk down The Mall to Buckingham Palace – From Trafalgar Square, stroll down the tree-lined Mall to the official residence of the King. It’s an iconic photo stop. If you time it right, you might catch the Changing of the Guard ceremony. Need a break from sightseeing? St. James’s Park is right next door and perfect for a relaxing walk. • Make your way to Parliament and Big Ben – Take a quick Tube ride to Westminster. This area is home to some of London’s most iconic sights, including Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament. Find a red telephone box nearby for that perfect London photo.
  • Visit Westminster Abbey – Just around the corner is this stunning Gothic masterpiece, the site of royal coronations, weddings, and funerals for centuries. Highlights include Poets’ Corner and The Coronation Chair, which has been used for every monarch since 1308. Even if you don’t go inside, the exterior is awe-inspiring.

  • End your day at The National Theatre – Located on the South Bank, it’s a hub for some of the most innovative theatre productions in the world. Many shows here go on to become West End hits or award-winning films. If you’re not catching a performance, the area around the theatre is perfect for an evening stroll, with street performers, book markets, and scenic views of the Thames.
