A Wee Family Business

In our family, I’ve always been the trip planner. Before we met, my wife had barely left the U.S., but now, travel is a part of our lives to stay connected with family and friends in Europe (I’m English). Every trip, I’m the one staying up late, diving into research, trying to make a trip that fits our budget and that has something for everyone. But it gets lonely. I wanted a way to bring Stacy and our three sons into the process.

After years of trial and error (think spreadsheets, and elaborate PowerPoints with polls), I finally cracked the code: a way to make trip planning quick, easy, and collaborative.

That’s how the Let’s Plan a Trip games were born! Here’s how they work:

• Every card features a real destination.
• You and your group rank the destinations based on what excites you the most.
• Then, you build your itinerary using the top-ranked cards.
• The cards are color-coded by proximity, making sequencing and scheduling easy.

Turning that idea into a product has been a labor of love.

My eldest son showed me the way by starting his own e-commerce business, and I figured if he could do it at 13, then maybe I could as well. He loves to travel too, so I’ve recruited him to help with marketing and shipping. In fact, as much as I can, I try to make it a family affair, and I keep everyone sweet because all of the profits made by this store go into our travel fund, which means more trips, and more games, and more connection!

And isn’t that what it’s really all about?
